The project is a study of urban landscape transformations during the war in Ukraine. We started working in the fall of 2022 and continue to this day.
The images of fortifications in the city are the object of reinterpretation of the changes in the daily life of the citizens. The emerging checkpoints and trenches in public space, on the one hand, create a sense of security, and on the other hand, complicate the usual movement and perception of the urban environment. The objects interact with people directly, they are created taking into account the physical features of the body.
Another part of the project is the topic of “nature” in the city during the war. The urban space of Kyiv was partially mined. There were several parks and adjacent forests that were forbidden for the public visits. In the spring, the barricades and trenches began to grow weeds. Due to the mixed soil, the grasses started growing faster, forming dense thickets. Urban nature started recovering and taking over new territories of the former battlefields.
