The destruction of Mariupol by Russian troops and its subsequent occupation led to the severance of numerous social bonds. Most of the people who survived these horrific events left Mariupol and are now in different regions of Ukraine, Europe, and the world. This project explores the Russian attack on the Mariupol Drama Theater, which has become a symbol of Russian terror. Our goal is to gather the disparate voices of the witnesses of this tragedy in one space and to reinforce them with research materials.
We analyzed thousands of photos, videos, and social media posts; created numerous 3D models of the building; and conducted over a hundred hours of interviews with witnesses. Due to the lack of direct access to the site of the tragedy and the systematic destruction of evidence by the Russian Federation, these materials are an important historical document.
