The ‘Dom Odbudowy Ukrainy’ initiative focuses on helping to preserve and restore Ukraine’s cultural heritage and has been operating since March 2022, using the experience of post-war Warsaw. We have established cooperation between Ukrainian and Polish cultural heritage protection institutions for the effective exchange of experience and resources.
At the beginning, we collected requests from Ukrainian cities regarding the needs for the protection of monuments: from fire-fighting materials, conservation tools, and charging stations. Based on the requests, we purchased and sent the necessary equipment, analysing its effectiveness.
Expert groups from Ukraine and Poland discussed current challenges in the field of heritage protection. Records of the meetings were saved on servers and YouTube. During 2022-2023, we recorded weekly reports from Ukrainian monument conservationists, creating a chronicle of events and sharing experiences.
We also held online conferences on the scale of destruction of cultural heritage. The initiative continues to this day.
