The GreenUkraine.CH initiative documents the effects of the war on Ukraine’s agricultural land, including the pollution caused by bombs, rockets and other munitions. The project is being implemented with the participation of scientific institutions from Ukraine (Sumy National Agrarian University), the United Kingdom (Royal Agricultural University) and Switzerland (Bern University of Applied Science).
More than 1,000 samples of war-affected soils were collected in Sumy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. The analysis revealed an increased content of heavy metals, and the results were entered into an interactive map. This creates a scientific basis for restoring agricultural land and ensuring food security.’
