The NGO transferred the collection of works by Valeria Leventsova, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine to the Izmail Military History Museum Complex, formerly the O. Suvorov Museum, to accelerate its reboot towards getting rid of dependence on imperial narratives, in particular, to fulfill the tangible demand of society to deprive Izmail of the status of the city of “Russian military glory” and the cult of the imperial commander Alexander Suvorov. Today, this museum is a leader in patriotic education and is actively working on its project called Ukrainian Art Weapons. The collection donated with the assistance of the Documenting Ukraine fund served as a trigger and as a reason to start the project. The works are dedicated to understanding the tragedy of the modern Russo-Ukrainian war, full of pain for the shameful crimes committed on our land by the aggressor country (paintings “February 24, 2022,” “Pain,” “Bucha”) and pride for the worthy resistance that our country provides to the invaders (“Liberation of Zmiinyi Island,” “Free Bird,” “Russian warship, go…” “Ukraine Unbreakable”).
