The project aims to investigate the specifics of the creation, dissemination, and perception of various symbols and emblems (images, memes, slogans, etc.), as well as symbolic and ritual practices (youth flash mobs, anti-war protests, commemorative practices, etc.) related to russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. From February 24, 2022, until the present day, over 30 web resources have been analyzed. These include hundreds of web pages, over 2,000 photos, and 100 videos. This project is based on research strategies developed in visual and cultural studies with the aim of decoding the symbolic space of russian military aggression against Ukraine within the context of the information war, russian propaganda, and the media and mass culture. The focus is directed towards observing various symbolic forms (loci, actions, texts, symbolism) to trace the interpretations of symbolic and ritual practices and ascertain their influence on the transformation of collective identity.
