The project is dedicated to the forced migration of humanities scholars from the territory of hostilities in Ukraine. The first wave of migration started in Donbas in 2014 and had the character of internal migration, the second wave (after February 24, 2022) developed into migration to European and other countries. The aim of the project is, on the one hand, to study the strategies of survival and career building of Ukrainian displaced scientists in extreme conditions, and, on the other hand, to study the motives and extent of involvement of European scientists in the process of helping Ukrainian scientists. The project’s methodology involves collecting and analyzing oral history interviews with scholars from Ukraine and Europe. From April 2022 to February 2024, 67 interviews were recorded: 47 with Ukrainian scholars and 20 with European scholars. Most of the respondents were affiliated with German and Polish research institutions at the time of the interview, while 1-2 respondents lived in each of the other countries (the UK, Czech Republic, Hungary, Switzerland, Sweden).
