Mark Chehodaiev’s artistic and research project is based on a series of photographs and interviews. The artist explores and documents the spaces of old hotels, hostels, and resorts that originally served as temporary accommodation or recreation, and now provide shelter to Ukrainians forced to leave their homes due to the full-scale invasion.
The artist explores the everyday life of Ukrainians in the frozen in time Austrian resorts which have lost their historical significance but have gained a new one—social. The analog photographs show how people deprived of a stable shelter reorganize their temporary environment (although for many it lasts more than two years), adapt to the strange conditions of the hotels, and adjust their needs accordingly, beinguncertain about their future.
To date, the filming has taken place in Vienna, Innsbruck and the Tyrol region, Salzburg, and Semmering.
