Genre: literary reportage. The timeframe of the search for witnesses, recording, and processing of the interviews: March 2022 — April 2024.
The book is based on conversations with war witnesses from different regions of Ukraine, including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Who do these voices belong to?
To a family from Hostomel who fled the occupation on foot with their young children under fire. A retired farmer who survived Russian captivity. The widow of a military volunteer who is trying to preserve the memory of her beloved. A Ukrainian with a Russian passport who was offered to become a collaborator. A psychotherapist who has been working with those released from captivity for several years. A student from a destroyed village in the Kharkiv Oblast who founded the Theater With no Home in Poland. And many other Ukrainians who have witnessed Russian aggression against Ukraine.
These and other personal stories make the emotional legacy of the war visible, show the role of culture and historical memory, and reveal the mechanisms of psychological resilience and ways to recover from trauma.
